Freedom House’s long term residential treatment program services those in need of drug abuse treatment or alcoholism treatment under the same roof. The reason for this is simple: Both afflictions are complex—but treatable—brain diseases, and both require the same commitment to Faith, Hope, and Trust in order to bring about positive change.

Whether our residents come to us seeking a drug abuse treatment center or looking for alcoholism addiction treatment, they share a commonality in that they compulsively seek out their drug of choice, be it alcohol or narcotics. Because of that compulsion, they will use their drug even when faced with severe adverse consequences. Through our peer-driven, no-nonsense, highly structured and disciplined drug and alcohol treatment program, we help them to realize and understand the reasons for their compulsion and replace negative triggers with positive ones.

Most of the residents in our drug addiction treatment center are classified as having a chronic addiction. This means that relapses are possible even after long periods of abstinence. Again, this holds true for those addicted to either alcohol or drugs. This condition is not unlike other well-characterized, chronic medical illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, and asthma. Like people faced with these illnesses, those seeking alcoholism treatment or drug abuse treatment have to accept the reality of lifestyle changes in order to facilitate their recovery. Once this reality is accepted, we teach our residents how to live a drug- and alcohol-free life through the 12-Step based dual recovery program, repeated treatments, accountability, and by giving them a stake in their own recovery.

Long term drug rehab in halfway house settings at Freedom House. Freedom House is a once-in-a-lifetime, no second chance, alcoholism recovery and drug addiction treatment center. We accept nothing less than total abstinence, and there is no leeway given for relapses. If that sounds harsh, consider that in the year 2006, we had to turn away 339 men who were referred to us because they have a history of relapses or a minimal prognosis. Additionally, we were only able to accommodate 19% of the indigent clients applying to our drug and alcohol treatment center. As unacceptable as these numbers are, that is the reality we’re faced with due to the number of available beds at this point in time. With continued donations from our friends and benefactors, and fundraising efforts through The Freedom House Foundation, we hope to reverse this trend in the years to come so we can serve more of the men that are ready to abide by our rules and regulations and that are earnestly looking to bring about positive changes in their lives. Consequently, there is no tolerance for rules infractions because standing behind every man that occupies a bed in one of our halfway houses in New Jersey is a long line of men that weren’t able to get a bed or the same opportunity to benefit from our drug-alcohol rehab program.

Freedom House’s drug and alcoholism treatment program provides an overall therapeutic process that begins with a “black out” period in which no outside contact is allowed. A treatment and relapse prevention plan is implemented following this detoxification period. This may include a customized treatment plan that addresses all aspects of an individual's life, including medical and mental health services, as well as follow-up options such as transportation to work, court appearances, or attendance at Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings. Residents of our drug and alcohol treatment center are taught job search skills and are assisted in finding employment, often through one of the many affiliations we have with businesses located in close proximity to our halfway houses in New Jersey.

Find long term residential drug and alcohol treatment and transitional living programs at Freedom House. Once employment is secured, residents are required to budget all their income. This includes paying half of their net income as an investment in their treatment and saving one-third to fund independent housing once their in-house drug and alcoholism addiction treatment is concluded. Any remaining money must be used to pay child support (if applicable), fines, and daily living expenses.

Freedom House’s drug and alcohol treatment centers are structured in three phases. Phase I (highly structured and disciplined) and Phase II (less structured and disciplined) are performance driven, and the average length of stay is approximately 9 months. Phase III, which is peer-driven, offers the highest level of recovery. A resident that progresses through all three phases can expect to stay with Freedom House for 9-12 months before moving onto our transitional living programs (3/4 house) to prepare for integration back into society. In order to graduate from our drug and alcohol treatment center, a resident must have completed all recovery assignments, be employed full time, have at least $1,000 in savings, secured an approved living arrangement, and be firmly entrenched in a 12-step recovery process.
