Freedom House provides long term residential treatment solutions for chronic problems in a non-institutional atmosphere. The significance of this to our residents, many of whom have been referred from drug courts and criminal justice departments, and who have often spent time incarcerated or come from homeless and broken family structures, cannot be understated. Our home-like settings often act as triggers to memories of better times for our residents, long before the values of Faith, Hope, Trust, and Freedom were overtaken by the decimation of substance abuse.
Our residential treatment program, facilitated by a dedicated and caring staff, is unlike stereotypical halfway houses in New Jersey that simply offers a place to live while residents integrate back into society. At Freedom House, we offer performance-driven long term drug rehab and alcoholism recovery through individual, group, and family counseling. We demonstrate to our residents that true hope for a better life is both tangible and attainable. Once this truth is accepted, traditional beliefs such as halfway houses being “just another place to live,” or that “long term recovery is impossible to achieve,” are replaced with the realization that drug rehab and alcoholism recovery is well within reach with hard work and guidance.
Freedom House’s drug and alcohol treatment center focuses on long term residential treatment for adult males who have used up other resources the system offers. Our residents are often indigent and homeless, have no job or license, and have a history of multiple treatment failures. The adult women we work with are often single mothers that have the desire to be re-united with children who were placed with child protective services. In most cases, they are migrating from a long term residential treatment center to Freedom House’s transitional living programs. Unlike most of the men, who receive long term drug rehab or residential alcohol treatment during the course of their stay with us, the women have often completed a drug – alcohol rehab program and are already in the early stages of recovery. Consequently, the women receive secure, safe housing in lieu of treatment while learning life skills such as money management and cooking. Each woman is assigned a case manager while Freedom House works with the courts toward family reunification. Our three main programs include:

- Long Term Residential Treatment for Men
Freedom House’s long term residential treatment for men excels—in part—because it is conducted from community based halfway houses in New Jersey rather than from a hospital. Through reality therapy, behavior modification and positive peer pressure, as well as individual and group counseling, life skills training, and a comprehensive drug-alcohol rehab program, we’re able to attain performance-driven results.

- Transitional Living Programs for Men
Residents in our transitional living programs are located in home-like settings and live with a small group of other men as they prepare to integrate back into society. All room, board, and transportation to and from work, court appearances, and other necessary functions are provided.

- Transitional Living Programs for Women
The women that come to Freedom House have generally already been through a long-term residential drug and alcohol treatment facility. Our function lies with teaching them life skills and providing them with a case manager that will oversee their stay and work with the courts to reunite them with their children.
